If you love All Things Coffee like me ... you'll want to keep reading :) Did you know that this Saturday, Sept. 29 is National Coffee Day? I didn't - thanks to this article I read on The Penny Hoarder, there's a bunch of places where you can score a free (or pretty cheap) cup of joe and more!

Where to Find Free Coffee on National Coffee Day 2018

1. Barnes & Noble - Books and coffee go together like peanut butter and jelly — and this Saturday, you can enjoy both at Barnes & Noble with a free cup of hot or iced coffee.

2. Caribou Coffee & Einstein Bros. Bagels - If you live near a Caribou Coffee or Einstein Bros. Bagels shop and need a little food with your coffee on National Coffee Day, you can enjoy any size coffee for free with the purchase of any food item.

3. CIrcle K - If you’re passing by a Circle K on National Coffee Day, stop in for a free medium coffee and Belvita breakfast biscuits. Just download the CIrcle K app and present the deal at the register.

4. Cumberland Farms - On Saturday, just text FREECOFFEE to 64827 to receive a mobile coupon on your smartphone. The coupon is good for a free Farmhouse Blend or bold coffee in any size (hot or iced), or your choice of tea, cappuccino or hot chocolate.

5. Dunkin Donuts - Dunkin Donuts isn’t about to let its coffee-loving patrons suffer through the holiday. Stop by your favorite DD and get a free hot coffee with the purchase of any hot coffee of equal or lesser value.
Bring a friend and share the love! (By love, I mean caffeine.)

6. Krispy Kreme - Krispy Kreme went above and beyond by creating a coffee-glazed donut to celebrate National Coffee Day. And you can enjoy this limited-time donut this Saturday with a free cup of hot coffee — any size and no purchase is necessary. And if you’re a Krispy Kreme rewards member, you get to enjoy a free donut with that coffee.

7. Love’s Travel Centers - Love’s Travel Centers is celebrating for two days, Sept. 28-29, with 24-ounce coffees and other hot beverages for just $1. All proceeds benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, so you’ll be doing some good while enjoying your java.

8. Maui Wowi Hawaiian - You may know Maui Wowi Hawaiian for its smoothies, but it serves a mean cup of coffee, as well. You don’t have to go to one of its stores to buy it, either. For National Coffee Day, Maui Wowi Hawaiian will offer customers 50% off their online orders at shop.mauiwowi.com. Just use promo code ALOHACOFFEE at checkout. That can mean big savings if you dig coffee from the Kona district of Hawaii.

9. McDonald’s - If you have the McDonald’s app, you’ll find two deals on coffee, though they aren’t specific to National Coffee Day. You can get any size hot or iced coffee for $1 through Dec. 30, or if you plan on having coffee with a friend, you can get any medium or large McCafe beverage for one penny with the purchase of any medium or large regular price McCafe beverage until Sept. 30.

10. Pilot Flying J - On the road this week? Participating Pilot Flying J travel centers will offer a free hot coffee — any size and any flavor, including the limited-edition pumpkin caramel macchiato flavor — this Saturday for National Coffee Day. Just download the myPilot app and look for a coupon under “myOffers” to get your free cup o’ joe.

11. PJ’s CoffeeVisit - PJ’s Coffee on National Coffee Day for a free 12-ounce Ruby Roast, the chain’s first direct trade light roast coffee in collaboration with coffee farms in Honduras and Nicaragua.

12. Stewart’s Shops - If you live in New York and like to get your coffee buzz at Stewart’s Shops, you’re in luck. On Saturday, you can get a free hot, iced or cold-brewed coffee from noon until close. What’s more, you can get it in any size and any flavor.

13. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf- This coffee chain has been celebrating National Coffee Day all week by offering a free specialty beverage with the purchase of Bright Future Blend coffee and tea for all rewards members.

10 Fun & Free Ways to Enjoy the Rest of Summer

Can you believe Summer is almost over? You don't have to spend any money to enjoy what's left of summer. If your budget is tight and you still want to feel like you're on a mini vacation or staycation, keep reading! Here's 10 of my favorite ways to have a fun, fabulous and free ways to enjoy the remainder of this summer season!

  1. The Beach - If you are lucky enough to live within driving distance to a beach (or a lake or a river or even just a pool), take advantage as much as you can this summer. Go early so you can find a good parking spot nearby, for free of course! Pack some essentials - such as food, drinks, reading materials, sunglasses, beach chairs, towels, etc.. and just relax and maybe even work on your tan!
  2. Street Fairs - Check online for local summer fairs in nearby towns or cities. Admission is usually free and there are always lots to see and taste. We recently came back from the nations largest single day street faire in Carlsbad, CA. We didn't buy anything, but many vendors offer free samples.
  3. Summer Concerts - Many local communities offer free outdoor summer concerts. This is a fabulous way to enjoy your city's music scene and learn about new bands and hear great music. Check your local listings throughout the summer.
  4. Stroll Old Town - This is one of my favorite things to do, in any season! Most areas have a downtown or old town with quaint local stores (vs. chain stores). Leisurely stroll and stop in at the shops and maybe grab a little bite to eat at one of the cozy cafes. I enjoy checking out little antique shops. This is a great way to discover little gems for one-of-a-kind treasures.
  5. Farmers Markets - Hit your local farmers market early so you get the freshest produce. Support local growers (vs. big box supermarkets), often times they are cheaper and offer a much better quality. Most vendors offer samples too! You can also shop for healthier organic options. Make a shopping list of items you might need ahead of time, so you won't overspend.
  6. Scenic Drives - Go a little off the beaten path to areas where you normally wouldn't drive to. Make sure it's not too far so you won't waste money on gas. Map out your destination ahead of time. Make sure to stop when you can to take in the sights.
  7. Picnics At The Park - Pack a light picnic lunch and drive (or walk) to your favorite park. Pick a quiet, shaded spot and enjoy your meal. Bring some music or reading material if you plan to go by yourself.
  8. Explore New Neighborhoods - This is a great way to feel like you are exploring a new neighborhood in another state or country! Pick a neighborhood, park your car, then meander around their downtown or residential area. I love walking around quaint residential streets with beautiful homes, I get inspirations on how I can improve my own home's curb appeal.
  9. Flea Markets - One of my favorite destinations to shop! There are several flea markets or swap meets happening every Sunday. I usually find unique, one-of-a-kind gifts or something for myself for dirt cheap. Don't be afraid to negotiate with the vendor. Most of them would rather sell the item(s) vs. take it back home with them.
  10. Go To The Museum or Zoo - Most communities offer "free to the public" admission days. Call your local zoo or museum ahead of time and take advantage of these great local attractions.

Fun and Frugal 4th of July Ideas

Summer is in full swing, and the 4th of July weekend is upon us! How do you plan to celebrate this year? Although you don't need to do something extravagant, it's quite patriotic to celebrate our country's independence the way most Americans have done for so many years... with fireworks, BBQ, hot dogs and an overall good time! I've listed a few frugal ways to celebrate the 4th of July weekend festivities! Enjoy your 4th and have a blast :)

BACKYARD BBQ - If you are hosting a 4th of July party, make it a potluck event. Have you friends bring other food or drinks that you won't be serving yourself. For instance someone can bring the appetizers, while another bring the drinks, another can bring the dessert and so on. You can get creative with the food, like flag inspired pies or cakes, even hot dogs! You can also serve food that's already red, white or blue - like watermelon, whip cream topped dessert, and blue colored drinks (or blue M&M's)!!

PARTY SUPPLIES - For you party stuff, go to your local dollar store and pick up a few 4th of July themed party supplies and decor. Or you can simply group together items you already have that are red, white & blue or stars & stripes and display them on your food table or around the area where your guests will be hanging out. You can also use red, white & blue bandanas as pennant decorations, as in the photo above.

THE BEACH - If you aren't in a party mood, you can always head to the beach. There's usually some 4th of July festivity going on. The beach will most like be crowded, park your car a little further away to avoid paying for expensive beach parking. Pack a light lunch, so you won't be tempted to buy food there. Sit back, relax and sink your toes in the sand.

PARADES & EVENTS - There are several cities and towns hosting Independence Day parades or other related events. Check your local listings for one near you. Most of the parades are usually followed by a fireworks display. Again, park your car a little further away to avoid expensive event parking cost.

FIREWORKS - Check your local listings for free fireworks display. They are usually held by the water... the beach, the bay, the marina, etc... Or, you might be lucky enough to live somewhere where you can see the fireworks display from your own backyard.

MUSIC FESTIVALS - There are some free music events and concerts you can attend on the 4th of July weekend and all summer long. Check your local listings for one near you.

Our Practically Free Cruise To Mexico

5/10/2018

What's the catch you ask? Well, about 6 months ago, my boyfriend and I attended a timeshare presentation with the promise of a free vacation. We listened to more than 2 hours of their sales pitch, but we've attended enough of these presentations knowing they are going to try super hard to convince you to part with your money, but you just have to be more savvy than they are.

Anyways, after we said "no thanks" multiple times to their timeshare offer, we got our free vacation certificate, where one of the choices was for a cruise. The timeshare company uses these marketing "freebies" to entice potential timeshare buyers to come listen to their spiel. After reading all the details and fine print on the vacation certificate, I filled out all the necessary information and mailed it to the designated travel agency handling the promotion vacation offer.

After confirming which cruise dates we wanted, the only thing we had to pay for was a $50 refundable deposit to the travel agency and port fees and taxes to the cruise line company. This is a great deal, most cruises are quite expensive! However, dealing with this particular travel agency was a bit of a nightmare. Everything was done via snail mail and the person assigned to our trip was not the most pleasant (or bright). She called us to upsell us on a better or bigger cabin, etc.. After saying "no thanks" multiple times, she became a irate and hung up.

Thank god, we got another letter in the mail from another agent about a week after speaking to that agent. This new agent said Carnival Cruise contacted them to extend an offer to us to upgrade to a cabin with an ocean view for the price of our deposit. Needless to say, we jumped at the chance, since we've already sent them the $50 check months ago.

To sum it up, the process to get this free cruise was long, frustrating and annoying at times, but in the end it was all worth it. We just got back from our cruise about 2 weeks ago and our experience was priceless. We will have many wonderful memories for years to come!

We have attended many other timeshare presentations and received gift cards, etc.. for our time. Read about how when we were staying at a resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico we attended a timeshare presentation and for our time we got enough vouchers to pay for our entire trip's meals! Savvy and frugal :)

How would you like to make an extra $100 a month or more? This is a conservative amount, you can make $200 in a minute, with more effort.

There's a fun, easy and completely legitimate way to do this. You can do this in your spare time, the more you do this the more cash you can make.

I've been meaning to look into Swagbucks for a long time, I finally took the time to sign up and participate and it's totally worth it.

What is Swagbucks?
Swagbucks is an online rewards and cash back program. Simply do the things you'd normally do online, such as search the web, answer surveys and polls, watch videos, play games, and shop; you'll accumulate digital SB points (swagbucks) that are quickly redeemable for free gift cards, PayPal Cash or pre-paid cards from Visa. It's completely free to join!

How to get started?
1. Go to Swabucks.com  and click the "Join Today" button.
2. Fill in your information on the form.
3. Validate the email you receive from them.
4. You are on your way to earning SB points!

More ways to earn SB Points

In addition to the ways to earn listed above, there are other ways to maximize your earnings:
1. Refer your friends to join and earn 10% for life! You get 10% of their SB points.
2. Take a chance by entering one of their Swagstakes. Entries are made with SB points.
3. Add a SwagButton Chrome extension on your browser. It automatically notifies you if the website you are visiting offers SB cash back for shopping.
4. Enter a SwagCode. After downloading the extension, you'll be alerted on where to find the Swag Codes. It could be on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, etc.. Enter in the code and redeem for SB points.
5. Download their mobile app and earn while on the go!

How to redeem SB points
Once you've collected enough SB points, the fun part is redeeming them! Here's how...
1. In your account, click on Redeem your SB / Rewards.
2. Based on your SB point total, choose your preferred gift card(s).
3. You can also redeem your SB points towards charitable donations. Click under "Do Good" for a list of charitable categories.
4. Once you've selected your reward, click on the "Snag This" button.
5. Verify your reward selection in the email you received. Make sure to do this or else it won't be valid.
6. In about a week, you'll received confirmation that your Swagbucks gift card is ready. Click on the link in the email to activate your digital gift card. It's that simple!

8 Summertime Freebies

6/21/2014

Picture
Yay! Summer is here! Summer officially begins today, June 21. Read on for some frugal picks to enjoy this awesome season! Today's post is an excerpt from AARP Money.

Hot fun in the summertime? Sure, there's plenty to do, but the price of all that fun can add up fast, draining your bank account. Don't sweat it. There are several ways to have a blast this summer for free (or almost free).

1. Free National Park Admission
Although two-thirds of all National Park Service sites are always free, admission to the remaining parks will be free as well on Aug. 25 to celebrate the National Park Service's birthday. If you're 62 years of age or older, any day of the year for only $10 you can buy a Senior Pass good for the rest of your life at more than 2,000 sites managed by the National Park Service and four other federal agencies. That's a purchase that pays for itself several times over.

2. Free Movies
Hitbliss is an online service that allows you to earn credits by watching selected commercials so you can watch on-demand movies from its website. You'll need to download the program to a desktop or laptop computer (no mobile availability at this time). If you'd rather take the kids to the movies, Regal theaters across the country are offering selected children's movies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the summer for just $1 a ticket, with a portion of that going to charity.

3. Free Plants and Seeds
With the growing popularity of backyard gardening, swap meets for gardening enthusiasts are sprouting up all across the country and even online. You can trade excess plants and seeds with other gardeners rather than spend big bucks to buy them at the nursery. Then come home and have fun with the family planting away.

4. Free Stuff To Give and Receive
Listia is a website where you give away things you don't want in exchange for points that you can use to bid on other things on the website. Freecycle is a worldwide nonprofit network of locally based groups filled with people who give away things they no longer need to anyone who wants them. Both are great ways to find free summertime gear, from a used bicycle to an unwanted BBQ grill.

5. Free Camping
If you're looking for a primitive, backcountry wilderness experience, you can camp for free at national forests and on public lands managed by a number of other federal agencies, as long as you follow the guidelines for so-called dispersed camping. If your idea of camping involves an RV, there are still some places where you can camp for free.

6. Free Wi-Fi for Travelers
Save on your data plan by using free Wi-Fi when you travel this summer. There are several free apps to download from Google Play and iTunes that allow you to find free Wi-Fi service at hotspots including restaurants, stores and hotels. Don't forget that most public libraries also offer free computer and Wi-Fi access, although you may need to get a temporary pass or library card if you're just passing through.

7. Free Do-it-yourself Workshops
Summertime is a prime time for home improvements, and Home Depot offers free in-store classes to show you how to do everything from landscape your yard to build outdoor furniture. It even offers special workshops just for kids, as does Lowes.

8. Volunteer For Free Admission
From outdoor concerts and plays to county fairs and festivals, summertime is event time. If there's a cost for admission, ask the event organizers if they can use a few hours of your time. Volunteers often get to enjoy the event for free, and you might even get a free event T-shirt, too!

What does living frugally mean to me? Well, it does NOT mean being cheap, quite the contrary, I believe it’s being smart in your choices, such as how you spend your money everyday. Prioritize and take control of what’s important to you. I always strive to spend less on almost everything.

In this challenging economy, some of us have had to cut back on our expenses. Wouldn't it be nice to still have the things or services you want and need but not have to pay full price or even better, get them for free?

Choose value and quality over quantity or fads and you will come out ahead. The great benefit of being frugal is that it eliminates waste and clutter which in turn helps our environment.  By doing simple changes towards more “green” and frugal ways, together we can make an impact on our planet.

    About Me

    Picture
Hi, my name is Marissa Winfrey and I have been living the frugal life ever since I can remember. I have always looked for great bargains and getting the best value for my money without compromising style and quality.

My background is in visual display and interior decorating. It’s always been my objective to recommend cost effective solutions to my clients. I, of course, practice what I preach! I have furnished my own homes mostly with furnishings and decor items from my own little vintage boutique, estate sales, discount stores, flea markets, yard sales, thrift stores and even curbside discarded furniture!

My frugal practice goes beyond the home. I offer money saving tips on just about everything, from shopping to travel and everything in between. I hope my blog and website will inspire everyone to be their own Frugalista.

How to Retire Happy, Wild, and Free:
Retirement Wisdom That You Won't Get from Your Financial Advisor

How to Retire Happy, Wild, and Free offers inspirational advice on how to enjoy life to its fullest. The key to achieving an active and satisfying retirement involves a great deal more than having adequate financial resources; it also encompasses all other aspects of life -- interesting leisure activities, creative pursuits, physical well-being, mental well-being, and solid social support.

What sets this retirement book apart from all the others is its holistic approach to the fears, hopes, and dreams that people have about retirement. This international bestseller (over 110,000 copies sold in its first edition) goes way beyond the numbers that is often the main focus of retirement planning in most retirement books.
